Mr. Kenneth Lamar Howell Sr., a resident of Montgomery, Ala., departed this life on Dec. 15, 2015. Funeral services were held Dec. 19, 2015 at 2 p.m. from the Lilly Baptist Church with Rev. T. E. Jordan, officiating. Interment followed in Eastwood Memorial Gardens. Kenneth taught chemistry at Spingarn High School in Washington, D.C. for 34 years. Kenneth loved sports and at Spingan, he served as head coach of varsity football, basketball and baseball. He was also a sports commentator for DCTV Cablevision. Kenneth was an avid Redskins fan and was honored to be asked to sing the national anthem at a Monday Night Football game in 1977. He served as umpire for softball and baseball for the MBUA, AHSAA, ASA and MBSUA. He was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated since 1965. He was tickled pink to have the chance to be an extra in the Danny Glover movie, “The Honey Dripper.” He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Rose Mary Cox Howell; daughter, LaShawn (Christopher Sr.); sons, Kenneth Howell Jr. and Alfred Veney; grandchildren, Christopher Wiltz Jr., Dekendra, Taylor and Tyler Veney; sister, Donna Bryson; brother, Larry Catney; godchildren, Lorenza Patrick Jr. (deceased), Kevin Patrick(Jaketa), Aisha DeJarnett (Larry) and Maxine Grayson(Frank); a sister -in-law, Wanda Betton (Randolph); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and associates. Omega Rites Services were held Friday, Dec. 18, 2015 at Ross-Clayton Funeral Home Chapel at 7 p.m.
