Roy Hilton Johnston

Roy Hilton Johnston, 87, of Luverne, passed away at Baptist Princeton Hospital on Nov. 5. Mr. Johnston was a retired master sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and he was of the Methodist faith.

He is preceded in death by parents, Felix Hilton and Lottie Cirella Sasser Johnston and daughter, Vikki Ellison.

Mr. Johnston is survived by sisters, Frances Nichols of Luverne, and Paula Butler and Juanita Kocivi both of Montgomery; granddaughter, Britt Coody of Boaz; great-grandchildren, Shon Coody of Albertville, and Danielle Coody and Savannah Yother both of Boaz; great-great-grandchildren, Corin Elise Whidby, Monroe Coody and Kindlee Coody.

Graveside services were held Nov. 9 at Blount Memory Cemetery.

 

Rex Ervin McGough, Sr.

Mr. Rex Ervin McGough, Sr., age 87, a resident of Greenville, Ala., died Nov. 10. The family will receive friends at Turner Funeral Home in Luverne Friday, Nov. 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a private memorial service to be scheduled for a later date.  Mr. McGough was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Howe McGough; one daughter, Lee Ann Lapsky; three sons, Robert McGough, Gary McGough, and David McGough; his great-grandson, Hunter Sexton; his parents, Robert and Vergie McGough; his sister, Elzora Smith; and brother, Ray McGough. He is survived by four children, Darlene (Dennis) Gibson, Kathy Davis, Peggy Kilburn, and Rex (Lorraine) McGough, Jr.; 17 grandchildren; 27 ½ great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gracie Rowell and Shirley Ann Thomas; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Roy Webster Nichols

Mr. Roy Webster Nichols, 75, a resident of Luverne, passed away on Nov. 6. A memorial service was held Nov. 8 at Brunson Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Williams officiating. Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his parents, George and Fannie Gallops Nichols, and two brothers, James Nichols and Joe Nichols. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lovie Tidwell Nichols; four children, Timmy (Renea) Nichols, Tony (Terri Lynne) Nichols, Joan (Rickey) Bradley, and Linda (Eddie) Burt; five grandchildren, Nikki Bradley, Jonathan Burt, Summer (David) Rhodes, Dakota Nichols, and Corey Adam Nichols; one great-grandson, Gunner Rhodes; three sisters, Sue Nichols Murray, Peggy (Brian) Trout, and Frances (Joe) Noble; and three brothers, Robert (Ginger) Nichols, Paul (Ruby) Nichols, and Doug (Charlotte) Nichols. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to Lovie Nichols at 7132 Mt. Ida Road, Luverne, Alabama 36049.
