Leopards bounce Tigers from playoffs

Six first-half touchdowns proved too much of an obstacle to overcome as the Mobile Christian Leopards sank the Luverne Tigers’ title hopes 43-19.

The first blow to the Tigers’ morale was delivered from the very first play, as Mobile Christian’s Jordan Graddy returned the opening kickoff 86 yards untouched to give the Leopards an early 8-0 lead following the two-point conversion.

On the Leopards’ next possession, running back Troy Young received a handoff and made a pair of Tiger defenders bite on a stutter step, clearing the way for a lengthy touchdown run.

However, the Luverne Tigers proved they weren’t finished yet on the ensuing drive. A gutsy call on fourth-and-long resulted in a score as Austin Bryant beat defenders outside on a sweep for Luverne’s first score of the night.

But it was all Mobile Christian afterwards as a combination of Young, quarterback Jordan Aubrey and receiver Gerren Wasden pulled the Leopards out of reach with consecutive scores.

Austin Bryant recorded an 18-yard touchdown run for the Luverne Tigers in the second quarter, and Tyrus Jones added a 5-yard touchdown to the total.

Marcus McGhee scored the only second-half touchdown for Luverne on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.

McGhee finished the night with 193 yards on 37 carries.

The Tigers ended their 2015 campaign with a 6-5 mark.
