Classmates gathered at the Chicken Shack at 11 a.m. Each shared greetings as I registered their arrivals.

Fellow classmates in attendance were Kathryn Davis Evans, Adine Horn Mosely, Voncile Richburg Nichols, Florence Stephenson Jeffcoat, Margaret Jeffcoat Nichols, Mildred Baggett Thomas, Mildred Walker Martin, Mattie Pearl McVay Sport, Ed Bagents, George Franklin, Louise Turner Morgan and Charles Sport.

Guests attending were Doyle Taylor, of Gannt; Diane Evans Scott, Joyce Mosely, Trish Franklin and Neal Mosely, all of Montgomery; and Gladys Sport and Sue Bagents, of Luverne.

Voncile Nichols welcomed all and gave updates on some who were unable to attend.

Charles Sport also gave a word of welcome and called out the names of deceased classmates.

With a total of 76 graduates, the 1947 class was known as one of the largest classes to graduate from LHS.

A whole lot of talking was done by all in attendance. They reminded each other of how blessed they were to be able to attend after 68 years, which puts them all in their late 80s.

Local photographer Bennie McDonald made a group picture of the classmates in attendance.

The tables were beautifully decorated in LHS colors of red and white by Mrs. Glenda Yancy. She included red and white note cards at each place. The cards were a special souvenir that listed facts, events, history and happenings of 1947.

Mattie Pearl Sport placed a red and white bouquet of fresh flowers on the register table in memory of her brother, Roy McVay, who was also a member of the 1947 class.

Ed Bagents gave the blessing for the meal. Everyone ordered from the menu and was served by a special, efficient waitress named Sherrie.

The 2016 reunion will be held on the first Saturday in August at the same time and place.
