Only 15 veteran applications have been received for this year’s Covington Region Honor Flight and there is room for nearly 10 Guardians.

Greg White, CRHF chairman, said Wednesday that the flight can hold 55 total, including veterans, guardians and volunteers on the sixth annual flight.

Organizers are looking for World War II, Korea and Vietnam veterans to take part in the trip.

“As always, our priority will be to transport any World War II veterans that have not previously traveled with us,” White said. “We will also fly Korean and Vietnam-era veterans on this trip.”

The program takes veterans, free of charge, to Washington, D.C., for the day, where they will visit sites such as the World War II memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and the Korean and Vietnam memorials.

White said the group has paid the initial deposit on the flight and local business transportation.

“We still need to raise between $6,000 and $7,000,” he said. “So donations are appreciated.”

White said individuals, businesses or civic organizations can sponsor a veteran for $450, which is also the cost per guardian.
