A two-vehicle crash today, July 28, claimed the life of a Red Level woman and injured another. The crash occurred at 11 a.m. on U.S 84 at the 119.8 mile marker, according to a media release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

May Godwin Thornton, 50, of Red Level was killed when the 2011 Toyota Camry she was driving collided head-on with a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. Thornton was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Othello Taliaferro, 77, also of Red Level, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
