Frank Ray Watson

Frank Ray Watson passed away Saturday morning, July 18, 2015.

He is survived by his wife, Mignon C. Watson, of 59 ½ years; one sister, Martha Watson, of Houston; his children Tim (Pam) Watson, of Huntsville; and Patti Watson Mullins (David) of Madison.

He had two grandchildren, Jamie Hilborn of Huntsville and Sarah Calvelage (Mack) of Florence; one great-grandson (Cooper Calvelage); and three step-grandchildren Rand Mullins, Brian Marbrey and Leslie Marbrey of Huntsville.

Mr. Watson graduated from high school in Luverne and went on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree from Troy State College. He also did post graduate work at UAH and served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

His career then began as a high school teacher, but after a short time, he began working as a tech writer at Brookley Field in Mobile, a career that would last 50 years.

He relocated to Denver, Colo., Vandenburg, Calif. and ultimately back to Huntsville in 1963. There he worked with Brown Engineering for a number of years before re-entering civil service at Redstone Arsenal. He worked on many missile systems while at Redstone.

His love and adoration for his country and the soldiers he worked with were the driving forces that led him to the height of his career that was truly an accomplishment for the work he loved so much.

Dr. Bill Etheridge, Pastor at Aldersgate UMC, where Frank was a member, will be officiating the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aldersgate UMC building fund located on Bailey Cove Road in Huntsville.
