Calling all animal lovers: now is the time to peruse your pet pics for the best shots. Those photos could make your furry, feathered or scaly friends calendar pets in 2016 and help homeless animals in the process.

The Butler County Humane Society (BCHS) is holding its annual Pet Calendar Photo Contest for the upcoming 2016 edition of its popular calendar, an important fund-raising tool for the non-profit organization.

“We look forward to seeing lots of your animal photos, and not just dogs, cats, puppies and kittens,” says BCHS president Herbert Morton. “We welcome photos of your horses, birds, hamsters, ferrets, roosters, goats and other four-legged friends, too. The more the merrier!”

Photos taken with owners, indoor and outdoor shots, pets in seasonal settings and holiday costumes are all welcome and requested. Both hard copy photos and digital images are accepted, says Morton, with images that are at least 1,000 KB/1MB in size preferred. There is no limit on the number of entries per household and animal lovers both in and outside of the county are welcome to participate.

“We’ve had entries from the other side of the country and the other side of the Atlantic, and we appreciate each and every person with a heart for animals who has supported our mission,” Morton explains.

The entry fee of $5 per photo and $15 per memorial photo and story are the same as last year, says Morton. Order forms will be available at some local businesses as well as online by emailing angieklong60@gmail.com. Forms can also be accessed at the BCHS Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BCALHS

Payments, hard copy photos and order forms may be sent to: BCHS Pet Photo Contest, P.O. Box 264, Greenville, AL 36037.

The Greenville Advocate is publishing the upcoming calendar and a box will also be set up at the office’s front desk to allow contest entries to be dropped off.

The deadline for photo submissions is “a firm” July 31 this year, Morton stresses.

“We have to allow plenty of time for judging all these great photos, and then having the pages and cover design laid out so we can have the calendars ready before Thanksgiving arrives,” he explains. “So get those photos to us soon!”
