The Butler County Farmers Federation Women’s Leadership Committee will hold its 9th annual Heritage Cook-Off June 20.
The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the Greenville-Butler County Public Library.
The theme for this year’s contest is fried dessert pies.
The entries should be baked at home and brought to the cook-off ready to be judged.
A panel of judges will evaluate the entries based on flavor, attractiveness, simplicity of recipe and, of course, taste.
The top three winners will receive monetary prizes, while the first-place cook will go on to the state cook-off, which will be held in September at the ALFA office in Montgomery.
The contest will conclude with everyone sampling the entries.
Last year’s local contest was won by Wanda Stinson for her blueberry pound cake.
Second place honors were awarded to Janell Powell for her traditional “Best-Ever” pound cake and Third prize went to Charlene Powell for her flavorful butterscotch pound cake.
Entry in the contest is limited to members of the Farmers Federation that are 18 and older. There is no entry fee, but membership cost is $30 per year.
Entry forms for the cook-off are available by contacting Dixie Black at (334) 399-9948 or Charlene Powell at (334) 376-9980.
