Brantley baseball fell 7-2, 6-4 to Shoals Christian in the AHSAA Class 1A State Championship best-of-three at Montgomery’s Paterson Field.

Shoals head coach Jason Anderson said figuring out Brantley’s pitching was the key to success in Game one. Brantley’s Tommy Spivey pitched the seven innings.

“We realized early that he had pretty good fastball,” Anderson said. “We just sat back and tried to drive it.”

The Flames wrapped up the night with two-run homerun from designated hitter Trenton Gillis.

“I was just not trying to do too much up there,” he said after the game. “Just do what I knew how to do. I had a lot of balls hit the fence and I thought it was going to do the same.”

Brantley head coach Greg Evans complimented the Flames’ efforts.

“We caught Shoals on well-pitched games and they had some key hits at opportune times,” he said.
