Students take part in AREA Youth Tour

Four area high school students participated in the Alabama Rural Electric Association’s (AREA) Youth Tour in Montgomery held on March 10-12.

Fort Dale Academy’s Emiley Wells, Selma High School’s Aderick Moore, Lowndes Academy’s Millie Motes and Morgan Academy’s Harrison Adams represented Pioneer Electric Cooperative in various leadership activities with other students from across the state, while also getting to experience many historic sites in Montgomery.

The winners were selected based on an application, an interview process and their demonstration of leadership skills.

“I thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to attend the Montgomery Youth Tour, meet legislators, tour the Alabama State Capitol building and learn about the cooperatives that power our rural areas,” said Wells. “I gained a new appreciation of how important electrical cooperatives are to our country — electric co-ops started the move to power the very house that I live in today.”
