Mrs. Effie Jewel Kent, 88, a resident of Montgomery, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014. Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 in Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery (The Lodge) with Rev. Joe Leverette officiating and Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mrs. Kent retired from civil service with more than 30 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Effie Jane Williamson Kent; five sisters, Myrtice Brown, Mollie Barwick, Audie Parham, Cumi Sansom and Ida McCartha; four brothers, Noel Kent, Tom Kent, Clayton Kent and Cader Kent; and her nephew, Kenneth McCartha. Mrs. Kent was survived by her niece, Peggy McCartha and nephew, Lauren Brown. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
