Sarah Hutchison Caldwell

Sarah Hutchison Caldwell, of Tuscaloosa, passed away on her 88th birthday, August 10, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama after a short illness. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel, 5434 Old Birmingham Highway, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35404 with the Reverends Penny Ford and Ken Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel.

She was born in Forest Home, Butler County, Alabama, the daughter of Perry E. Hutchison and Mary Wall Hutchison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jackson L. Caldwell; two sisters, Frances Trawick and Emily Atkins.

She is survived by sons, James E. Caldwell and Jackson L. Caldwell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sarah was a 1944 graduate of Greenville High School and earned her B.S. and M.A. Degrees from the University of Alabama where she did additional graduate work. She taught for thirty-four years in the public schools of Alabama. Twenty of those years were in the Tuscaloosa City School System at Rosedale, Verner and University Place Schools. She was a member of Beta Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and Tuscaloosa Retired Teachers Association.

Sarah was interested in porcelain painting and a member of Alabama Porcelain Painters Guild.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was active in Trinity United Methodist Women and Fellowship Sunday School Class. She enjoyed genealogy and history and helped organize the Brandon-Trinity Archives Room.

Pallbearers will be Van Atkins, James P. Caldwell, Robert Patrick, Mathew Paul, Daniel Paul, and B. J. Summerford.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Fellowship Sunday School Class and Trinity United Methodist Women.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
