Christian duo New Road 2 will be harmonizing too help local children at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. The couple will headline a gospel concert at the church on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m.
“We’re doing a fundraiser to benefit the children’s ministries,” said Brenda White, organizer of the event. “And these are friends of mine.”
Ooltewah, Tenn. couple Stacy and Gina Cooper formed the act and travel throughout the country.
White first saw New Road 2 at Eastdale Estates, a retirement home in Montgomery. Impressed by the enthusiasm and talent of the husband-and-wife team, White asked them to perform at her sister’s surprise birthday party.
“I’m very happy to have them in Crenshaw County and especially in Chapel Hill Baptist Church. I love their different songs and they even do a legend show,” said White. “I think the best part they do is a patriotic salute to veterans and it’s very moving.”
Chapel Hill has taken steps to accommodate its youngest members. White says it is working.
“The congregation has really grown. We just created a children’s church,” she said. “Vacation Bible School had over 60 in attendance.”
Pastor Neal Kelley’s youth ministries include “church in a sack.” He brings an object in a sack and incorporates the common object into an uncommon sermon.
Proceeds from the New Road 2 concert will help the ministry continue to grow and be creative.
“With this high-tech world, you have to think outside the box to keep their attention while keeping the gospel in mind,” said White.
Saturday’s concert will appeal to the whole family and White promises an enjoyable time. “I think they’ll leave being blessed,” she said.
