William Raymond Mixon Sr.

William Raymond Mixon Sr., 81, a resident of Fairhope, Ala., and formerly of Greenville, passed away Feb. 11. Funeral services and a celebration of his life were held Feb. 17 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Greenville. Burial followed in the St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Mixon is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Varner Mixon. He is survived by his children, Bill (Dianna) of Auburn, Ala., Wendy, of Mobile, Ala., David (Karen) of Pike Road, Ala., and Doug (Amy) of Daphne, Ala.; six grandchildren, Ben (Janie), Whitney (Zach) Stillwell, William (Laura), Jill, Brian, and Kimberly; and five great-grandchildren, Jacob and Ava Mixon, Noah and Haley Stillwell, and Liam Mixon. He is also survived by daughters of the heart, Melanie Stonestreet of Highland Home, Ala., and Savannah Byrd of Daphne, Ala.; a sister, Frances Black of Canoe, Ala., and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Jack Simmons of Harvest, Ala.
After completing military service and moving from Florida to Greenville in 1968, Mr. Mixon worked at Rheem Manufacturing as a design engineer prior to his retirement in 1991. After retirement, he and Barbara accepted various contracts with the Army Corps of Engineers Parks throughout the state of Alabama as park attendants and enjoyed traveling extensively. The pair traveled through each state in the U.S. except Alaska and Hawaii.
He will be missed by his family for his ready wit, contagious smile and the laughter that followed him as well as the love that he shared with his family and wide network of friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to The St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, or to the charity of your choice.
