Butler County officials are asking residents to stay off the roads.

Butler County Engineer Dennis McCall said that while the Tuesday morning check of the roads did not reveal any icing, road conditions are expected to deteriorate as a winter storm hits the area later Tuesday morning.

“We would like to encourage that any travel on Butler County roadways be limited to essential travel only,” said McCall.

Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon also asked that citizens avoid driving if at all possible.

“I know we don’t get this stuff a lot, and it’s real pretty and everyone wants to go see it, but I’d really ask that folks not do that,” McLendon said. “We’d just ask that everyone would stay off the roads if they can.”
