Officials to close roads

All Butler County roads will be closed Tuesday beginning at 12 a.m. due to wintry weather.
Officials are urging motorists to stay off the roads if at all possible.
“Based on the information we have right now, we feel like the roads will not be safe to travel,” County Engineer Dennis McCall said. “We’re asking people to use common sense and stay off the roads unless it’s an emergency or it’s absolutely necessary to travel.”
McCall said workers will reevaluate the roads at 5 a.m. Tuesday.
“We’ll start with checking the bridges and salt them, and then move on to looking at the roads and make a determination of whether or not to open them at that time,” McCall said.
According to McCall, the worst-case scenario for the county would be sleet and freezing rain.
“That’d be worse than snow,” McCall said. “It would cause the roads to ice over and that’s very dangerous.”
