Roy Eugene Newsome passed away Jan. 17 at Georgiana Medical Center in Georgiana, Ala.

Funeral Services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Georgiana. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. and the funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday with Rev. Jerry Stevens, Rev. Jim Wilson, and Rev. Allen Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home directing arrangements.

Mr. Newsome was born May 4, 1929, in Phenix City, Ala., son of late Alton Otis Newsome, Sr. and late Ruby Pearl Newsome.  He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years and also retired from teaching at Trenholm State Technical College after 20 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for the last 46 years serving on multiple boards and as a delegate to the Alabama-West Florida Annual Conference.

Mr. Newsome is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Marion E. Newsome of Georgiana; two sisters, Evelyn Ecton of Phenix City , and Carolyn Evans of Georgia; and one brother, Dan Newsome of Phenix City.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen O. Newsome and wife Deborah of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kenneth W. Newsome of Norwich, England.  Grandchildren include Amanda Lyman of Anchorage, Alaska, Jordan Newsome of Norwich England, and Thomas Newsome of Norwich England, and great-grandchild Kara Lyman of Anchorage, Alaska.
