Crash on Interstate 65 South claims lives of two children

A five-vehicle crash at 10:50 p.m. Sunday claimed the life of two and injured three.

The crash occurred on Interstate 65 three miles south of Atmore.

Nadir Gillis, 9, and Naziya Gillis, 7, both of Camp LeJeune, N.C., were killed when the 2010 Dodge Challenger in which they were passengers was struck by a 2000 Freightliner truck driven by Terry Allen Wyatt, 57, of Andalusia.

The driver of the Dodge, Isom Hodges, 28, and passenger Labricia Hodges, 30, both of Camp LeJeune,  were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

William C. Rousey, 42, of Lexington, Ky., was driving a 2004 Nissan and was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

The other drivers involved sustained no injuries.

The crash forced the Alabama Department of Transportation to close a section of Interstate 65 and reroute traffic.

Clean up was still taking place Monday morning.

No additional details are available as Alabama State Troopers continue their investigation.
