Man charged in death
U.S. Marshals arrested a man this week on felony manslaughter charges for a death in Fort Rucker in 2011, the Dothan Eagle reports.
According to federal court records, Benjamin J. Schrad was arrested and charged with the unlawful killing of a person referred to as “ES” on Aug. 1, 2011.
Schrad was arrested as part of an indictment, which also charged him with felony involuntary manslaughter for the killing.
The indictment says it occurred during the commission of an unlawful act not amounting to a felony, but a third-degree assault, according to the Dothan Eagle.
It was previously reported by multiple media outlets, that Emily “Emmy” Grace Noel Schrad, age 4, of Brantley, died on Aug. 4, at a Birmingham hospital after she was airlifted from Medical Center Enterprise where she had been admitted on Aug. 1 for a head injury.
An Aug. 9, 2011 obituary published in The Luverne Journal lists Schrad as Emmy’s father.
If convicted Schrad could face eight years in federal prison, three years supervised release and a fine of not more than $250,000 and restitution to the victim’s family.
