Board members and Superintendent Randy Wilkes said they knew Jones would be a great asset to the county school system.

Jones said Wednesday his decision was for his family.

“I had a lot of friends at CCA and they were very good to me,” he said. “I was just a family decision I had to make. I hope all is well with them and us.”

Jones said he hasn’t accepted another coaching position of any kind.

CCA has named Angela Carpenter as headmistress and Rick Jackson will take over as head football coach.

“Coach Jones left things in good shape,” Carpenter said. “We are ready to start school as normal, and we wish him the best of luck.”

Additionally, the Crenshaw County School board voted to:

• accept the retirement of Angela Ball of Luverne;

• accept the resignation of Chris Pennington, assistant principal of Luverne and Cheryl Pennington, elementary school teacher at Luverne.

• employed Lisa Adair-Oberer, instructional specialist at Luverne; Rosheeta May, as elementary school teacher at Luverne, Megan White, special education paraprofessional at Highland Home; Brittany Bragg as elementary school teacher at Highland Home; Charlie Holmes, preschool paraprofessional at Highland Home.

• transfer of Alicia Beasley from elementary teacher at Highland Home to elementary teacher at Luverne.
