First United Methodist Church of Greenville is inviting the community to join its members for its 7th annual Independence Day celebration in Confederate Park on July 4.
“It’s a chance for us to come together and celebrate our freedom as a country and also our freedom to worship,” said Bob Vanderbye, chairman of the church’s witness committee.
The event will feature a free meal, as well as entertainment and a children’s parade around the park. Children are asked to decorate their bikes, trikes, wagons and mini-motorized vehicles in a patriotic theme. The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m.
All food, entertainment and activities are free of charge and open to the public, but Vanderbye said donations are welcome.
There will be tents set up to provide shade, but those attending are asked to bring their own chairs.
