A Greenville woman has been arrested and charged with assault after she ran over her boyfriend early Saturday morning.

According to authorities, Mona Shambray and her boyfriend McGarrick Powell got into an argument after leaving a local club at approximately 2 a.m.

At some point during the argument, Powell exited the car and was struck by the Chevy Colbat that Shambray was driving.

The circumstances leading up to the incident are still under investigation.

“She said that when she went to drive off, that he jumped out in front of her and attempted to stop her from leaving,” Lt. Justin Lovvorn said. “Her intent is somewhat in question, but it was not what I would classify as accidental. Her actions that are shown on the scene and the evidence we’ve collected show that it could have been avoided if she would have taken the proper actions that she should have.”

Powell was taken to L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.

Authorities say he suffered a fractured skull and internal bleeding and is listed in critical condition.
