Lala Pope Pouncy

Lala Pope Pouncy, 99, of Houston, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 6, 2013.  She was born on Nov. 10, 1913, in the Sandcut Community of Greenville.  She was the fifth of eight children born to Montezuma Bowie Pope and Cora A. Thomas Pope.

She will be remembered for her faith in God and sacrificial love for family and friends.  Throughout her long life she maintained a steadfast faith in Christ through all circumstances. Lala never met a stranger and was always quick to share her own life experiences, or lend a listening ear.   Family trials and joys became her own.

She is preceded in death by son, Rodger Pope Till.  She leaves to mourn her passing:

daughter, Willene Till Sipper and husband Ray Sipper of Greenville; daughter, Lala  “Penny” Pouncy Tapp and husband Michael Tapp; son, John William Pouncy, Jr. of Houston, Texas; stepchildren, Alton Pouncey, Barbara Bobo, And Carol Pouncey;  9 grandchildren:  Curtis Sipper, Rodney Till, LaNell Bradley, Allen Till, Katie Terrill, Lara Hannam,  Ashley Slater, Afton Baiutti, Zachary Pouncy; 25 great grandchildren,  numerous great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Johnston; numerous nieces and nephews; “special daughter” Cathy Kurtz and her son Nick Semander of Rocklin, Calif.  Pallbearers will be Zachary Pouncy, Joseph Bradley, Rod Till, Rodney Till, Allen Till and Curtis Sipper.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 in the chapel of Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home with Rev. Watson Wasden officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.  Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 9 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
