Deputies with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate a Saturday night shooting that resulted in the death of a Butler County man.

According to Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden, the circumstances leading up to the shooting a 40-year-old man are still unclear.

“We’re still looking into why it happened,” Harden said.

According to Harden, Barbara Wood has confessed to shooting the man, who has not yet been identified. Harden said the name is being withheld until all the family members of the victim have been notified.

The shooting took place late Saturday night at a home on Pettibone Road.

Wood was placed in custody at the scene and transported to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. She was later moved to the Butler County Correctional Facility where she is being held. Charges have not yet been filed.

“No formal charges have been filed at this point,” Harden said.

The case remains under investigation.

Saturday’s incident marks the second homicide of the year for Butler County.
