The City of Greenville’s newly elected City Council will officially take office Monday following a swearing in ceremony.

The meeting and ceremony will be held at the Wendell Mitchell Conference Center on the campus of LBW Community College.

City officials elected to move the ceremony from City Hall to the conference center in order to provide more space for those who want to attend the ceremony and the reception that will follow.

“A lot of times friends and family like to come, and by moving it to the Wendell Mitchell Conference Center we’ll be able to accommodate more people more comfortably,” Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon said at the council’s Oct. 22 meeting.

McLendon along with councilmen James Lewis, Ed Sims, Tommy Ryan, Jeddo Bell and Bryan Reynolds will be sworn in. Reynolds is the only council member that is new to the council. He defeated Jerry Myers in a runoff election to earn the seat vacated by Dr. Jean Thompson.

The newly elected councilmen will serve from 2012 to 2016.

The swearing in ceremony and organizational meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

The next City Council regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
