Greenville eyeing land near YMCA

Officials with the City of Greenville are exploring the possibility of purchasing 45 acres of land near the Greenville YMCA.

Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon said the land would be used to create a recreation area for the city.

“This would be a great facility for recreation,” McLendon said. “My vision for that would be walking trails, bike trails and a dog park. It’s perfect for it.”

Following the purchase of the land, the City would seek grants to fund the construction of the projects.

“I don’t think there’s any reason in the world that this isn’t going to work,” McLendon said.

The City is currently constructing six municipal tennis courts adjacent to the YMCA. That project is being funded with money from a $9.2 million bond issue that was approved by the Greenville City Council last September.
