Heavy rains on Tuesday resulted in flash floods throughout Butler County.
Lt. Justin Lovvorn of the Greenville Police Department said the heavy rains forced authorities to shut down a number of streets throughout the city.
“We just had to pull out some extra help for patrol today, because all the excessive rain we got at one time,” Lovvorn said. “We had several roads that were impassable for a short amount of time. We had a couple of wrecks on the interstate, and stalled out cars.”
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office also had to temporarily close a number of roads throughout the county, such as County Road 51 and Hwy. 45.
The flash floods also caused several power outages for residents across the county, according to Butler County Emergency Management Agency Director Shirley Sandy.
“We had 51 power outages with Pioneer Electric,” Sandy said. “Camellia Communications also had some problems with power outages.”
