Antone, Creech set for runoff

Georgiana incumbent Mayor Mike Middleton has been unseated.

Middleton, who has served as the city’s mayor for one term, was defeated in Tuesday’s municipal election by Jerome Antone, Larry Creech and Donald Colley Jr.

Antone and Creech will now face off in a runoff election set for Oct. 9.

Antone garnered 117 votes, while Creech received 109.

Colley tallied 84 votes, Middleton received 77 votes and former Georgiana mayor Lynn Harold Watson garnered 70 votes.

In District 2, Gwendolyn Crittenden defeated Joy Cobb. Crittenden received 68 votes to Cobb’s 35.

In District 3, Jacqueline Gandy edged Malvin Brewer, winning by just four votes. Gandy received 31 votes to Brewer’s 27.

In District 4, Clementine Pugh and Valerie Pettway will face off in October’s runoff election. Pugh garnered 34 of the votes, while Pettway received 25. Janice Stokes tallied 17 votes.
