The Alabama National Guard has activated its Domestic Operations Group for planning and coordination with the Alabama Emergency Management Agency in response to the Gov. Robert Bentley’s declaration of a state of emergency in preparation for the effects of Tropical Storm Isaac.

The Alabama Guard Emergency Operations Center has been activated and is operating 24 hours a day. It is monitoring the storm, preparing personnel and equipment for possible response and working with the AEMA to ensure that Alabama has a coordinated, appropriate and capable response to Tropical Storm Isaac.

Providing defense support to civilian authorities is a core mission for the Alabama National Guard. The Alabama National Guard conducts hurricane response rehearsals and exercises every year in order to prepare for such events.
