Longtime mayor eyeing return to office

Lynn Harold Watson has announced his intent to seek election as mayor of the City of Georgiana.
Watson previously served as the mayor of Georgiana for 20 years. He has served on the Butler County Commission for the past four years.
“The reason that I am running for mayor is that I hope that I can create more interest in Georgiana as far as industry, business and jobs,” Watson said. “We had a pretty good 20-year run. I feel that I am very qualified for the job.”
Watson said he feels he knows what it takes to bring industry to Georgiana with the help of new steel mills and the Airbus program in Mobile, along with Hyundai and Hyundai Heavy being located in close proximity to the city.
“We’re 55 miles south of Montgomery, and we’re 110 miles north of Mobile, and I believe that with my experience, I can attract some of these spin off companies and supply jobs for our area.”
Watson said he would like to run again not because he doesn’t want someone else to be mayor, but because he wants to be mayor himself.
“I would like to continue to supply a safe environment for the citizens,” Watson said. “We have one of the best volunteer fire departments in the state, in my opinion, and I would like to supply services to the infrastructure to the citizens in Georgiana.”
The municipal election will be held Aug. 28.
