Inge seeking seat on state school board

Alabama Democratic Executive Committee selected Herndon Inge III, a Mobile attorney, as their candidate for the Alabama State Board of Education, District 1.

Inge, 62, has been practicing family law in southwest Alabama for the last 37 years.

He has served his country as a captain in JAG of the Air Force Reserves, served the State of Alabama as a Special Assistant Attorney General and as a fair hearing officer and served Mobile County as a Deputy District Attorney.

He has served his community on the executive committees of Mobile Community Development Project, Mobile Community Organization, Mobile Bar Association, Family Law Section of the Alabama State Bar Association, Girl Scout Council of Southwest Alabama, Friends of the Public Library, Playhouse in the Park, The Crescent Film Society and his parish church.

He has been selected by his peers to serve two terms on the Board of Trustees of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., and as president of the Mobile Chapter of Cumberland School of Law Alumni Association.

He was selected as Outstanding Young Man of America in both 1978 and 1980, selected for inclusion in the Best Lawyers’ In America in 2010, 2011 and 2012, selected Best Lawyers’ Lawyer of the Year in 2012, in Family Law, in Mobile, and was selected Mobile’s Arts Patron of the Year in 2011.

Inge attended Mobile County Public Schools and graduated from Murphy High School.
