Shawnee Browder Pierce has announced her intent to seek re-election for the McKenzie City Council.
Pierce, who is seeking the District 2 seat, has served on the council for one term.
“I really love McKenzie,” Pierce said. “I grew up in McKenzie, and I am a teacher at the school. I feel like I have a stake in McKenzie to see it succeed and prosper. I just want to make sure that I do everything that I can for my children, so that McKenzie continues to thrive so it can be a great place for them to live if they choose to stay.”
If Pierce is re-elected to the council, she would like to see some community-improvement projects take place.
“(I would also like to see) some new businesses to come in,” Pierce said.
“I love the small-town atmosphere that we have. I also know that we need businesses so that our town doesn’t become a ghost town.”
The Town of McKenzie municipal election will be held Aug. 28.
