After the sale and donation of two properties, the Butler County Board of Education will be able to add $7,500 to its General Fund.

The two-acre Starlington School property was sold to Jerry Peterson and Charles Curry for $5,000.

Another piece of land was also donated back to the original owner, the Burkett family, who in turn made a donation of $2,500 to the school system.

Superintendent Darren Douthitt said there were three or four bids for the Starlington Property with the highest bid originally being about $7,000.

“At some point they determined they didn’t have that money to spend so they backed out on us,” Douthitt said. “At that point we went to the second highest bidder and that person purchased it.”

The board approved the resolution to sell the property at its June meeting and held a special-called meeting on Thursday to finalize the deed.

“I’m happy that we have finalized this transaction on the property,” Douthitt said. “We have been toying around with it for a while so I’m glad we have passed the land onto someone who can use it and we end up with some money that we can use.”
