Unopposed candidates take official post

Five unopposed candidates that currently sit on the Greenville City Council will officially take office on November 5 to serve another term.

Five resolutions were passed at the Council’s monthly meeting stating Incumbent Mayor Dexter McLendon and councilmen Ed Sims (District 2), Tommy Ryan (District 3), James Lewis (District 4) and Jeddo Bell (District 5) will each have a spot at the table come November.

Qualified candidates Keith Gibson, Jerry Myers and Bryan Reynolds will be running for the District 1 spot after Dr. Jean Thompson stepped down from her seat.

July 17 marked the deadline for qualified candidate to enter the race.

 

In Other Business:

 

*Approval to amend Chapter 5, which will allow the City to adopt the 2009 International Residential Coad, Building Code, Mechanical Code, Plumbing Code, Fuel Gas Code, Existing Building Code, National Protection Association 101: Life Safety Code and 2011 National Electrical Code.

*Approval to award bid for the custom Class A Fire Pumper Truck for the Greenville Fire Department.
