DYW to hold first ever High Heel Boot Camp

The Butler County Distinguished Young Woman program is sponsoring a “High Heel Boot Camp” for elementary school girls.

The boot camp, which will be held Aug. 11, is open to girls that will be entering the first through the fourth grades in the fall.

“Our hope is that this will get girls thinking about the program at a younger age,” said Starla Jones, chairperson for Butler County’s Distinguished Young Woman program. “That’s our major reason for doing it. The more girls we can get interested in our program the more of an impact we can have on our community.”

According to Jones, girls participating in the program will have the opportunity to practice being on stage and will also eat lunch with the participants of the 2013 Butler County Distinguished Young Woman contest.

“It will be a great chance for them to get around the older girls, and it will also help our Distinguished Young Woman contestants practice being good role models, which is part of our program’s platform.”

The boot camp participants will also learn a dance routine and perform it at the Butler County Distinguished Young Woman pageant on Aug. 18.

The boot camp will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. It will be held at the Ritz Theatre in Greenville. The cost to attend is $30 and the deadline to register is July 1.
