Lala Doriss Payne Harrison

Lala Doriss Payne Harrison, 89, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012. She was born and raised in Letohatchee, Alabama, later attending Montevallo and Huntingdon colleges. After graduation, she worked for the state banking department for many years until her retirement.
She was a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews, an active and faithful member of Whitfield Memorial United Methodist Church, a willing and devoted volunteer for many charitable organizations, and loyal and loving friend to many. She was preceded in death by her husband John Pryor Harrison; her parents, John Hamner Payne, Sr., and Mattie Smith Payne; her six brothers: Jessie Coleman Payne, John Hamner Payne, Jr., Eugene Bragg Payne, Samuel Lewis Payne, James Smith Payne, and Henry Hartwell Payne; and her two sisters: Mattie Maxine Payne and Louise Payne Meadows. Survivors include her nephews: Howard Payne Meadows (Mary Allen), Dr. John Hamner Payne, III (Anne), James Smith Payne, Jr., Richard Bragg Payne (Cheryl); her nieces: Maxine Meadows Coker (Thomas), Doris Payne Hardwick (Jim), Joy Payne Mackin (Jimmy), Carole Payne Smith (Jim), Jane Allen Harrison, Susan Ellen Harrison Green (Larry); and sisters-in-law Martha Payne, Lois Payne, and Betty Payne.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home in Greenville, Alabama, at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2012. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m. At Magnolia Cemetery with Reverend Travis Barnes and Reverend Francis Turner officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Serving as pallbearers will be H. Payne Meadows, Thomas E.
Coker, Dr. John H. Payne, III, James S. Payne, Jr., R. Bragg Payne, James V.
Smith, and James R. Mackin. Memorial contributions may be made to Whitfield Memorial United Methodist Church, 2673 Fisk Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36111, or to one’s favorite charity.
