A variety of chili will be spread across Confederate Park in downtown Greenville Friday night in effort to raise a few dollars for cancer research.

The 3rd Annual Relay for Life Chili Cook Off will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Alacare Home Health & Hospice is sponsoring the event and tickets will be $15 with children six and under being admitted for free.

“I’m just glad to see the team out there fundraising, and it’s a good thing,” said Galahad Smith, Relay for Life Event Chairman.

Tina Luker, team leader for the Alacare team, said it’s a process to try and bring other teams into the event as well as arrange entertainment for adults and children.

“We’re adding (entertainment for the children) and hopefully that will attract more people,” Luker said.

Teams are invited to cook any type of chili and are allowed to sell tickets to raise money for its team. Any tickets that are sold at the door will go toward Alacare.

“Everybody will fix their special chili and can be as creative with it as they want,” Luker said. “We will have some (people) to judge the chili and award a trophy.”

For three hours, those who attend the event will get to experience Air Jumpz, face painting, Bobby McKee and Friday, Kevin Sport, hayrides and more.

“Once you get in with your ticket, you have three hours of entertainment and to eat as much chili as you want,” Luker said.

Smith said he plans to be on hand to do a little taste testing of his own.

“Our teams are working hard this year,” Smith said. “I’m going to be there and I want to be there to support them and try out some chili.”
