The Fort Dale Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently awarded Kandys Killough its 2011-12 Community Service Award.

Killough was recognized for her work with the Butler County Humane Society. As a member of the Butler County Humane Society, she has spearheaded an effort for a no-kill shelter in the area. Killough has also been instrumental in establishing an association with “Pilots N Paws”, a non-profit organization that allows pilots to fly animals to prospective new homes across the country. This association has opened up an entire new level of assistance for the Butler County Humane Shelter in removing animals from the shelter and placing them with people in other parts of the United States.
