The Board of Education is looking to purchase new buses to replace ones that are more than 10 years old.

At its monthly meeting Thursday night, the board approved advertising bids on one of three 72-passenger school buses.

The BOE is seeking to replace three 72-passenger buses purchased in 2003.

“We have three 2003 school buses that we need to go ahead and bid for,” Allin Whittle, assistant superintendent of operations, said. “We need to have them built and purchased before October 1.”

Along with the bid for a 72-passenger bus, the board will also need to purchase a new special needs bus.

Whittle said the 72-passenger bus costs between $80-$84,000 while the special needs bus costs between $100-$102,000.
