The Greenville Police Department has arrested a Greenville man for attempted murder after an argument with his brother led to a Sunday afternoon shooting.

Arite Scarver, 59, was arrested after he shot his brother Robert Scarver, 60, in the stomach with a .45-caliber pistol at approximately 3:45 p.m. Sunday. The shooting took place at Bradley Apartments on Executive Drive.

“Basically, they were outside of the apartments on Executive Drive and a few friends were hanging out there and had been drinking alcoholic beverages,” Lt. Justin Lovvorn said. “Everything we got from the witnesses and after talking to (Artie Scarver), he just snapped. … One said something about a girl and the other got upset. Robert was sitting out there and Arite just walked off and got a gun and basically shot his brother while he was hanging out there in the yard.”

Robert Scarver was airlifted from L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital to Baptist South in Montgomery. Lovvorn said the Robert Scarver had undergone surgery and is in critical but stable condition.
