Darrell Sanders scored a narrow victory over incumbent Lynn Harold Watson on Tuesday to earn the District 5 seat on the Butler County Commission.

Sanders received 393 votes, while Watson collected 379. With no Republican opposition in November’s General Election, Sanders’ victory in the Democratic primary earns him the seat on the commission.

Watson, a former mayor of the City of Georgiana, was first elected to the commission in 2008.

As for Tuesday night, Sanders was just excited to be involved in the process.

“It was a great experience to sit there amongst other people who were also running,” Sanders said. “It was something I had never been apart of before so it was great.”

Sanders will now be playing the waiting game until he can officially take office after the election in November.

“My thoughts are what can I do to be prepared for it,” Sanders said. As for looking to the future, Sanders said he is most looking forward to serving kids, the schools and the community.
