The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a suspect in a home invasion over the weekend in north Crenshaw County.

Investigator Ronnie White said that shortly after midnight Saturday morning, a 66-year-old female was awakened by a black male who had broken into her home through the back door.

White said the suspect, who was on foot, raped and beat the woman before taking some of her money and forcing her into her vehicle.

White also said that the victim was taken into the woods, where she was raped and beaten again before being forced to drive the suspect to his destination.

“We do have a suspect in the case, and we do have warrants out for the individual of interest,” White said.

Warrants issued include first degree rape, first degree burglary, first degree robbery and kidnapping.

White said that the Federal Marshals, Crenshaw County deputies and deputies from Montgomery, Lowndes and Butler counties were assisting in the search.

UPDATE: Investigator Ronnie White said the suspect is in custody.  More information will be posted as it becomes available.
