Family honors Butler County relative

Jerry Wilson, a descendant of the Wilson family from Butler County, and his granddaughter Britney Lakes from the Captain W.Y.C Hannum U.D.C Chapter in Maryville, Tenn., honored Wilson’s great, great uncle Joseph Kemp at a memorial service Jan. 1, at Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with the help of the SCV Camp No. 33.

Jerry Wilson, a descendant of the Wilson family from Butler County, and his granddaughter Britney Lakes from the Captain W.Y.C Hannum U.D.C Chapter in Maryville, Tenn., honored Wilson’s great, great uncle Joseph Kemp at a memorial service Jan. 1, at Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with the help of the SCV Camp No. 33. Joseph B. Kemp was a Corporal in Company D, 39th Alabama. He died at The Battle of Murfreeboro on Dec. 31, 1862, at the age of 19. His father Ruben Chapman Kemp was a member of the Henry County, Ala., Minute Men during the Civil War. Ruben Chapman Kent died and was buried in Butler County at Brushy Creek Church Cemetery.
