Two Kentucky juveniles were arrested Saturday near Georgiana after running a stolen vehicle into a ditch and wrecking another in effort to evade authorities.

Both of the juveniles are from Louisville, Ky., and have been charged with receiving stolen property and theft of property, first degree. They have been transported to a juvenile detention center.

“(The Georgiana Police Department) called me after one of (its) officers got behind a vehicle and attempted to stop it,” Butler County Sheriff Harden said. “(The suspects) hit a ditch, jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot.”

The car was originally stopped for running a stop sign at approximately 12:15 a.m. It was during this stop that officers learned the vehicle had been stolen in Kentucky, according to Harden.

“We contacted the K-9 (unit) out of Atmore and just before they got here, one of the other police officers spotted this vehicle coming out of an area where it shouldn’t have been,” Harden said. “It was around 2:30 a.m., and they turned the blue lights on them and they fled.”

The two juveniles wrecked the vehicle, then jumped out and ran, Harden said.

“We turned the dogs loose on them and within 10 minutes, we had both subjects in custody,” Harden said.
