A 26-year-old man has been charged with arson in connection with a Feb. 22 house fire in Georgiana.

Shannon Lee Lowery has been charged with arson, second degree, after setting fire to a house that he entered to steal copper wire, according to Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden. Lowery has also been charged with burglary, third degree, for stealing the copper wire. He is being held at the Butler County Correctional Facility.

“We had a report of a burglary and arson on a house on Avant Road,” Harden said. “We did an investigation on it, and it was an intentional fire that was set in the closet.”

Harden believed that Lowery set fire to the house to hide his fingerprints after stealing the copper out of the house.
