The Greenville Police Department arrested a 22-year-old Greenville man Sunday for the shooting death of his 18-year-old sister.

A 22-year-old Greenville man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of his 18-year-old sister.

Officers with the Greenville Police Department arrested Demario Jackson Sunday afternoon after a bullet he fired struck Unica Jackson in the head. The shooting occurred at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday at 403 Bolling Street. She was pronounced dead at approximately 1:20 p.m., according to Lt. Justin Lovvorn.

Demario Jackson has been charged with manslaughter.

“After processing the scene, and talking with the witnesses that were in the house at the time, we’ve classified the shooting as an accident,” Lovvorn said.

According to Lovvorn, Demario Jackson was playing with a pistol that was equipped with a laser sight. He removed the pistol’s magazine, but did not check the gun’s chamber. He then pointed the pistol at his sister and pulled the trigger discharging the weapon and shooting his sister.

“After taking all the witnesses down to the station and talking with them separately, there was no reason to believe this was anything, but an accident,” Lovvorn said.
