Seale A. Moorer, Sr.

Seale A. Moorer, Sr., son of Dr. Rufus A. Moorer and Frances Cleveland Nicholas Moorer of Butler County, born on June 1, 1924, in Industry, Alabama, passed away on February 7th, 2012 in Naples, Florida.

Survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Jane Quinn Moorer (Naples, FL),  daughters Martha Moorer Wilkins Wise (Mobile, AL), and Frances Moorer Scott (Parker, CO) and son, Seale Alonzo Moorer Jr. (Naples FL); brother, Randolf Erle Moorer (Montgomery AL); sister, Rixine Moorer Collins (Pickens SC); 5 grandchildren, Virginia Wilkins Stork (Franklin NC), James Wilkins (Wetumpka, AL), Morgan Scott (Denver, CO), Maggie Scott Sommers (Denver, CO), and Saundra Quinn Moorer (Richmond, VA); and 4 great grandchildren, Barrett William Stork, Clara Paige Stork, Isaac Price Wilkins, and Lucy Elizabeth Stork.

Preceeded in death by his brother, Rufus Shanks Moorer, and sisters, Mary Frances Moorer Belcher and Birdie Margaret Moorer Edwards Buhl.

He began his service to the country in 1943 as a surgical technician in the Army Medical Corps, 103rd general hospital in the European theater of operations during World War II and was discharged with military honors.

Served again 1951 – 1952, as a surgical technician in the Army Medical Corps, 7th Division Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War and was discharged with military honors.

Earned a BS in Education from University of Alabama in 1953.

Co-founded the clothing outlet store chain, Imp Pedlar Ltd., in Richmond Virginia in 1967, with his wife, Betty and over the course of 30 years, the chain grew to over 20 stores across Virginia and North Carolina.

Served as an adjunct business professor at Virginia Commonwealth University 1978 – 1981.

Honored to serve as Chairman of the Board of Retail Merchants Association of Richmond 1981 – 1983 and remained an active member until he retired in 2000.

He was a founding director in 1986, of People’s Bank of Virginia and later of F & M Bank of Richmond and served on the Boards of Directors from 1986 – 1997.
