Joey Peavy has announced his intent to seek a seat on the Butler County Commission.

Peavy, who will run as a Democrat, is seeking the District 1 seat, which is currently held by Jerry Hartin.

“If I’m elected I’m going to do everything I can to recruit industry to the area,” Peavy said. “I’m going to look for ways to fund road work, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and our volunteer fire departments.”

Peavy said working to improve the county school system and looking into possible raises for county employees would also be priorities should he be elected.

“I think it’s important that whoever is elected be able to work with the other elected officials in the county,” Peavy said. “I look forward to doing that. I want to work with the other officials to improve the future of Butler County. That’s why I want to serve on the Commission.”

He is the son of former Butler County Revenue Commissioner Belle Peavy and Jimmy Peavy. He is married to Lisa Blackburn Peavy, a teacher at Butler County Schools’ Bright Beginnings. The couple has two children.

Peavy, a graduate of Georgiana High School, has worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad for 27 years. He is a member of Southside Baptist Church and has served as a volunteer coach with the recreation department.
