Eastern Star Training Awards for Religious Leaders is providing a unique opportunity for the Greenville community to give back.

ESTARL will be at Southside Baptist Church in Greenville on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. to put on a musical performance to benefit scholarships for Alabama’s ministerial students.

“Our goal is to make $10,000,” Pearl Horn, a member of Southside and ESTARL, said.

The price to enter will be $15 per individual. Musical performers include Southland Vocal Band, Bobby Johnson, Aaron Ledbetter, Mavis Partain, Works of Clay, Stacey Edwards and Patsy Cline.

Last year, the organization raised $8,000 and gave $1,000 to eight students across the state of Alabama no matter what the denomination of the student. Horn said the recipients can be preachers, music directors or anyone in the religious sector who is a student.

The scholarships will be given out in October of this year, and the hope is to give $1,000 to 10 students.

Horn invites everyone to come, enjoy some music and give a little for scholarships for students.

“This is the probably the last year that I’ll do this,” Horn said. “It may be the last time that I do this. I have been a member of this for many years. We have never done anything in Greenville for it. I just wanted Greenville to know that we do things like charity.”
